If I can form a thought, and maybe some grammar to go with it, I might just luck out and find time to share it with someone... and get weird looks.

Sherlock a Super Hero?
The following is a post I left on the Facebook Group Steampunk Ottawa on the discussion thread regarding the 2009 Sherlock Holmes movie with Robert Downey Jr.
I think "cerebral" was well translated with the short educated, intuitive, check-list leaps into his immediate future ie boxing match etc. Other than his quick wit and and even quicker analysis of people, it's difficult to translate ones thought processes without the written word. There are some fall-backs to live action stories that even the novels will continue to wield.
And as I do recall, Holmes was always full of anecdotal commentary and quite capable of physical interaction as the movie portrayed. A comic book character he did not seem. IMO.
Yes, the female characters were OOC for what we realize was a piece written when women were not then what they are today. So for the sake of social evolution, I grant the writers that discrepancy.
In conclusion, Downey did not really have much work to do other than costume and make up. He is IRL the epitome of the "too smart to be happy" gentleman with a habit of chemical escapism.
I can relate to him on so many levels in his life, his characters and even his excess. In order for me to be able to find more about him to like, I'd have to be gay.
5 stars, 2 thumbs and the special edition on the shelf, when it's available.
