My Hand @ Low Voltage

Almost 10 years ago, I worked for InfoMation Systems in Picton and was introduced to low voltage wiring. Namely network printer cables.  I really liked using the Cat 5e Crimper and proceeded to make more cables than we needed.  Like I said, FUN.

A few years later Carl called me up and said he needed help wiring a house for networking.  Every room in this mansion was to have Phone/Data & Network Cables built right in the walls like a hotel.  I had a riot crimping RJ-45 & RJ-11 cables all day and got paid for it.  I learned about the Leviton QUICKPORT system and fell in love with how easy it was to hide the networking cables in the walls... unlike my home with Phone lines, Network and Satelite cables hung over doors and taped across floors.  From then on, my dream of building my own house included a sophisticated networking and A/V wiring scheme.
So 2 days ago, our phones stopped working... then 30 minutes later our DSL stopped working.  Roberta was FURIOUS! I raced off to Home Depot to see what they had for wiring and found that they had set up a new display of Leviton parts and ports.  I was in heaven.  It took me an hour to stop taking things off the shelf I didn't need and only buy the parts I required.  Then I get the call that the only thing wrong with our lines was the DSL Filter/Spliter. aparently a cat had decided that we spent too much time online, so she peed on it.  The green rust inside the filter was a direct result of a direct hit of feline acidic urine.  Gross.  But the worst news was, I didn't need to rewire the whole house.  That meant I had to put all the cool toys back on the shelf.  But I didn't.
I kept one.  We have miles of cable that was damaged in our disasterous home style wiring and it all could use some new ends.  So I kept the Crimper.  hehehe.  I also decided that leaving a filter out under the office desk was just an invitation for the cats to do it again, so I pulled up the cables where it was stapled to the wall trim, cut a hole where the phone service entered the office, and placed a new recepticle bracket & faceplate.  Now the splices and filter are behind the wall.  Unless you've ever seen a fixed queen pee sideways, this will never happen again!

And!!! I also found the deposits she left behind the desk... that's why the office never smelled right.
